Landscape Design for Exeter Townhouse
Enhancing Kerb Appeal of Exeter Townhouse
Greenearth Landscape Architects were commissioned to produce a landscape design for a narrow space in an Exeter Townhouse. Being located in a town centre location without a garden it was felt by the client that creating a garden area would immeasurably enhance this property that was under renovation prior to resale.
Urban Greening in a Tight Space
The only area available to create a garden was a roofed narrow lean-too area. The approach involved removing the roof to in-effect create a small courtyard garden. Measuring only a matter of a few metres wide, space was limited ! Greenearth designed a scheme that used high specification materials such as corten steel, York stone and cobbles. Offsetting the path, creating a meandering route through the area created the illusion of space and reduced the awareness of the surrounding walls. The use of architectural planting, eg. hardy bananas, bamboos, climbers and grasses softened the space and created a lush and inviting oasis of green as you step off a busy Exeter backstreet. To complete the scene outdoor lighting was incorporated into the garden, spotlighting plants and form, making a welcoming approach to the house at night.
