Residential Development of 27 New Homes
We carried out a landscape and visual assessment and designed the landscape for this scheme for 27 new homes on the southern edge of Appledore in North Devon.
Housing and Multifunctional Green Space
This site is located in a visually sensitive hilltop location on the edge of Appledore in North Devon. The site is located in a ‘green gap’ between Appledore and Northam and is seen from points on the opposite side of the Torridge estuary and from Tapley Park Registered Park and Garden. North Devon and Torridge Council were concerned that the development would create coalescence and create adverse visual effects so Greenearth were engaged to produce LVIA looking at the likely effect of development on views from the surrounding area. Informed by this study we developed a landscape scheme that included strategic tree planting that would mitigate these effects while still maintaining the existing housing numbers. The scheme also included multi-functional green space with native tree and shrub planting and wildflower meadow seeding as well as a wetland area with wetland planting. Amenity, play and orchard areas were also important elements in the scheme and a natural style play area and an orchard planted with local heritage varieties of apple were included within the public open space.
