New Agricultural Workers Dwelling in the South Hams National Landscape

Agricultural Workers Dwelling

Located on open slopes in the South Devon National Landscape the proposal was for a new agricultural workers dwelling. South Hams District Council had reservations about the proposed initial siting of the house due to the inherent sensitivities of the site and visibility from the nearby main road,

Landscape Character and Sensitive Design

The LVIA carried out by Greenearth Landscape identified the likely landscape and visual effects of the scheme giving consideration to views from nearby roads and public rights off way as well as the host landscape character. We worked with the client, Luscombe Maye and the council to achieve a scheme that followed the mitigation principles to avoid and minimise effects through appropriate siting and design as well as offsetting and compensating for residual impacts. This involved setting the house down in the landscape through cut and fill, creation of Devon hedgebanks as well as the planting of a hilltop  copse which is a characetritic feature of the host landscape.
