Producing Renewable Energy while Minimising Landscape and Visual Effects
This site lies on south facing slopes in a rural area to the north of Okehampton and from the outset West Devon District Council were concerned about potential visibility of the proposal from the wider landscape, in particular from points to the south of the site such as Cosdon Hill on Dartmoor. We carried out a landscape and visual assessment, and based on our findings agreement was reached on how far up the slopes developmemt could extend to reduce visibility of the scheme. We also produced landscape plans that illustrated how the effects of the development could be mitigated through measures such as tree planting, creation of Devon hedgebanks and seeding of wildflower meadow areas. The proposal was granted planning approval and is now constructed and operational.
